This is my favourite show in the world, have been watching it since I was four years old.
And the new season, which people have been criticising, is one of my favourites. I have to agree that the writing isn't as incredible as it once was overall--but it has its moments and the actors and special effects are absolutely fabulous.
I'm not the kind of person to give up on the show that easily--erasing fifty five years of love for a few disappointments.
And as for those saying it's "pushing the social justice agenda" or "overusing political correctness", all I can say is: it's about time. In a world where stereotypes and awful assumptions can be spread like wildfire we need some positive influences! People say putting heaps of LGBT+ characters on the show or making the Doctor female is PC gone mad, but if we don't make the Doctor female, if we don't deliberately create a diverse cast, how are we going to make absolutely sure that there is representation out there? How are we going to teach the new generations that anybody can be powerful; anyone can be a hero; anyone could be the Doctor?
As an LGBT+ human being I find it so amazing to have all of these new LGBT+ characters in the new season. Even if their sexuality seems to be forced, it's so amazing to see people like myself on the screen.
Because here's the thing: it's not about an agenda, or forcing things. It's about creating a new normal. It's about setting new expectations and helping those who may have felt marginalised. To all those saying it's PC gone mad, please try and see it from the perspective of someone like me: someone who is not accepted for who they are; someone who couldn't get married until last year or who gets paid less than a man.
I can't wait to see where the show goes.
