One of the best Jackie Chan films. Four stars due to the fact that Jackie hadn't yet become totally fluent in English at this point, and hired a number of actors who needed to be dubbed for American audiences.
This wouldn't be a problem at all if the dubbing weren't laughably bad, though Jackie's poor English does add to the realism; he *is* playing a character who is visiting the US for the first time, after all. I wish this were the norm for the film instead of bad dubbing, as the whole film, which is already steeped in the flavor of the Chinese experience of living in the US, would benefit from it.
The dub can ruin otherwise serious moments in this film - turning those moments into comedy - and can leave one scratching their head and turning on subtitles/captions just to understand what's going on.
Poor dub aside, the rest of this movie is top-notch martial arts action-comedy with some great supporting performances by skilled martial artists. The fight scenes are expertly choreographed and executed flawlessly at ludicrous speeds. Bruce Lee would have said "wow" if he had lived to see this movie.
Don't skip this one if you like martial arts films.
