I am very surprised by all of the positive reviews I'm seeing for Aladdin. Personally, I was extremely disappointed with the remake of Aladdin. Maybe it's because I love and adore the animated movie from the 90s so much. Other than the stunning cinematography, it didn't do the animated classic any justice. I realize no one could have measured up to Robin Williams' Genie but Will Smith's portrayal ruined the movie for me. I am very surprised because I normally find him to be hilarious. He just seemed to be trying too hard to be funny and it fell flat. His portrayal of Genie was extremely corny in an attempt to be zany. Another huge disappointment was the villain, Jafar. He wasn't anywhere near the cunning and crafty evil incarnate from the classic. Also, there was zero chemistry between Jasmine and Aladdin. I could go on but I won't. In closing, my thought is Guy Ritchie squandered an opportunity to capture the magic of the story of Aladdin.
