Honestly…I am disappointed with the reboot and won’t continue watching. I was an avid SATC fan and ritually silenced my roommates and household to watch ..saw both movies but this…this isn’t it. I feel like they are unnecessarily telling us over and over again the obvious …they’ve aged…okay! We GET IT (already)…then there’s this awkward and forced inclusion of a storyline about Samanthas (originally played by Kim Catrell) absence which is uncomfortable at best and at worse..it’s unbelievable and confusing…unfinished… guess the writers needed to quickly tie up a loose end to address the elephant in the room.
Then the show has all these inclusions of social issues in a way that’s so overstated… gender equality, ageism, racism, sexual orientation freedom… they’re miserably and sloppily attempting to tackle it all and it ends up being a mush that could have been more eloquently observed and subtly written into the episodes over time ..but this feels like halfway written ..I am disappointed to say the least…gave it two stars instead of one because the fashion is still ah-mAY-zing
***update** for commenters who stated the show may cater to an older audience, I think thats exactly why the magic of this reboot is lost on me. The relatable nature of the characters was what made the show have realism ..trying to find love + building career in New York City… finding love/losing love through the lens of Carrie Bradshaw. Let’s not forget the episode Samantha was putting topical hormone creme to combat menopause while she battled breast cancer… I don’t think that’s an issue that I related too directly when I watched as a 20 year old but I appreciated the artful writing that went into telling her story. Or how about Carries+ Bigs decision not have kids? She was over 40 then! Again I don’t think age had anything to do with it as much as it was just GOOD writing and this show lacks that.
Sorry for the rant but I’m fanfully disappointed. As an African American woman I refuse to believe that an educated white woman living in NYC, who is as intelligent and down to earth as Miranda would need to engage in a long and awkward diatribe with her black professor about a hair style? Her character is and was more dynamic that that in SATC (just saying)…
Sorry not buying the “this is a show only good for over 40” when a good bit of the fan base is millennial… I’m done.
It’s still a No for me
