I do not use this term lightly. This is a CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE. It is a simple concept, with masterful execution. Fraser was perfect for the role - I have not seen an acting performance like it in a very long time. The film had many micro twists and turns, yet the macro concept remained the same; it showed the sheltered life of a recluse. The portrayal of 'Charlie' being the whale, the simile between an animal and human was made clear. The link between essays and his daughter, and connection. Here is a list of some of my favourite movies ever made - in no particular order: i) Shawshank Redemption ii) One Flew over the Cukoo's Nest iii) Nocturnal Animals iv) Interstellar I would place the Whale amongst these films. It was the single greatest acting performance I think I have seen.

Honestly, it was awful. The cinematography was amazing, fantastic special effects (except for the reveal of the 'cancer'); you can tell the director knew what he was doing. However, the screenwriting, plot and acting were all beyond awful. This film was not scary in the slightest, I often found it cringy and frankly boring. I could tell others felt the same, the cinema was full of individuals falling asleep and on their phones, and I don't blame them.
