The family blames the state for failing her, but they never take any responsibility. I think what Linda wanted most, was to be loved and accepted the way she was. Did anyone in her family do that? Even her daughter was ashamed of her and wouldn't answer to her mother's letters. All the family seemed to have wanted, was to get her locked away in a mental hospital to "get structured help." How convenient. The truth is that people with mental illnesses are still stigmatized in our society. Maybe in the end Linda saw no reason why she should get out of that house, get help, and live.
