(…insert obligatory nod to CB’s performance here…) There is no compassion for Lydia’s fall as there is no attachment written in for her on the way up. Lydia’s demise is uneventful because we don’t know her, why do we care? If you want to see musical genius gone wrong (and then redeemed)- check Rami Malek’s Best Actor performance in Bohemian Rhapsody 2018. As for Tar 2022, I want my rental money and my 2 hours and 38 minutes back.

This movie is tough to watch. After spending 100s of hours on Vikings and Valhalla and Last Kingdom, Northman is not even in the same league. Was Michael Hirst not available? I realize you only get 2 hours or so to tell this story but there is no real character development other than the lead. Witches and “seeers” appear from nowhere. The dialog is muted. We don’t see the boy grow up at all. Who were the moon-dancing raiders and why slaughter the Rus? He hitch hikes alone as a slave after just conquering a Rus castle? Did the Rus-skis not have any boats? Brother-killer and King Harold scuffle is mentioned in one muffled bit of dialog. A slave ship just happens to be going to Iceland. Howling bloody man-dog wolf scenes seem contrived. The magic-sword protecting zombie looks like a Disney Pirate, Nicole Kidman’s character is barely even window dressing.
