There are no words to describe how perfect this movie was. It’s just so stand alone. I’m commenting only to point out a review I saw that said it’s only impressive from the standpoint of somebody old who grew up in the eighties, sorely ignoring the way teenagers are now. This is absolutely false. I, a fifteen year old American highschool girl, watched this for the first time when I was 14, and haven’t been able to get enough of it since. I showed it to my 13 year old eighth grade anime-obsessed sister, and it’s become one of her favorite movies of all time. This movie hits so close to the heart, so fragily beautiful in the most feel-good way, you want to protect it with every fiber of your being the way a mother cradles her child to her chest in protection from the world. If it was possible to give more stars than five, I would rate this movie that. More than highly recommend, I assure this movie will touch your soul in ways it never has before, not to mention the uniqueness and incredibility of the music in it, as well as the unique actors that bring it into such a meaningful film.
