An excellent book. Wood has obviously done his research and pieced together all the important details, making a snapshot of the years 1935/6, and spinning it into a compelling narrative. There's a fine mixture of perspectives, from the news-hungry press corps, to compassion for not only the victims themselves but also the people caught up in the murder and its aftermath, and all shot through with the policeman's professionalism. Because the reader is brought through it so neatly and with such clarity, it's also a really worthwhile history lesson that you won't forget. Top marks from me.
