I believe how this book stands out among other database design books is that in addition to the thorough technical details,like maintaining data and referential integrity ,normalization etc it also talks about how to get the information about the model from the users and the management as well as emphasizing on apply business rules.Indeed very educative read.

Loved the examples of code and design smells especially which are taken from JDK classes. Sufficient code examples as well as illustrations to identify code/design smells as well as to refactor them.

Could be used by extremely experienced programmers to brush up the knowledge they already know as it is too theoretical and abstract. The book does not have a single code example e.g on how the code smells looks in a code and how to refactor the same. Have taught the concepts about each design pattern with absolute clarity.What is distinguishing from other books and blogs about design pattern is the entire refactoring journey for each pattern as well as the reasons for doing or not doing so.
