I'd never heard of the Montreal Jazz Trio until today. I caught them on CJRT Jazz FM this morning. I've been listening to jazz for 63 years. I'm generally a horn quintet/sextet guy. Monk as a pianist, both solo, or with his classic quintet, Mingus, and Horace Silver [all of whom I heard live several times during the early 60s], along with Oscar [especially wtih Herb Ellis and Ray Brown], the MJQ, and of course Miles----in almost all his manifestations---Louis Armstrong [when he wasn't 'show boating'], and the other notables have sustained me all these years. The Montreal Jazz Trio can now be welcomed into the rarified circle of quintessential jazz masters.
