“Double Indemnity” has not aged so gracefully. Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray do the best they can with sharp, but empty writing. Edward G. Robinson steals, and saves, the show as the cigar munching claims supervisor. Great directing and design makes this worth a watch, and it’s a worthy consideration as a film-study. Billy Wilder has done better since.
