I give five stars only for the plot. Claire, I cannot stand because all her actions are the actions of an immature 17-year-old. As an experienced WWII nurse and all she experienced you would think she would have the maturity to grasp the immediacy of each situation but she acts so immature, so unreasonable in understanding where and when she is. Caitriona gives a great performance but either the Author or the Director had no sense of human perceptions, feelings, and intelligence regarding the significance of the uprooting from one period of history and flung into another. She displays absolutely no concept of the customs, behaviors, and norms that are acceptable to the society of the time she entered. She is engaged in more problematic behavior presenting danger at nearly every turn. Claire's behavior is a complete contrast to all the other characters, standing out like a sore thumb
The storyline is the hook for me and kept and keeps me watching despite Claire's immature behavior. Fortunately, I can fast forward through some of this, especially all the sex scenes which do nothing to enhance the storyline. That is my opinion and problem, and nothing more. If you are thirsty for this level of action then so be it. To each his own poison.
Is it worth watching? I have to say yes with the exception of Claire.
As I proceed through this story, agonizingly and impatiently awaiting the next scene, Claire persists in her self-indulgent stupidity of history, customs, culture, morays, and a male-dominated, driven society of the period. The episode at Riverrun continues to demonstrate her childish view that whatever she believes must be followed regardless of the cost. Here she nearly costs to complete loss of Riverrun and other lives because of her failure to learn and grow from the experience. She does not appear to have the ability or interest to educate herself.
As I progress through the series (Season 4) Briana exhibits the same childish attitude and behavior as her mother. One has to believe or at least hope, that these two educated women would have at least the common sense to recognize the time and place they are at in history. The rudeness, arrogance, and self-importance emanate from them like a Claxton. I cannot fault the author because I have not read the book.
