It is with a heavy heart that I am giving 2 stars to a Raj Kumar Hirani film. A film that starred Shah Rukh, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani had audiences expecting a superb entertainer. The truth is far from it. Spectacular locations, great cinematography and lovely costume design appear wasted in a film characterised by poor storytelling. Try as it might with great emotion and drama, excellent dialogues, but the film fails miserably at the very core. It is more like a documentary that depicts the life and struggles of poor illegal immigrants who settle for menial jobs in developed countries trying to make the lives of people back home better. This altruism is hard to digest in Our modern world today.
is RKH trying to send a message - that countries should open their borders to allow immigrants without visa and legal documentation? Can beggars in London afford to build mansions back in India? A very loosely structured story with several loose ends. It simply fails to connect with and engage the audiences. I am hugely disappointed….
