This film is a moving and realistic depiction of the struggles of an immigrant African mother in the UK, as she strives to create a life of purpose for her son. The boy eventually comes to terms with his identity and sense of self. In the process, he learns to love and respect the mother who had temporarily given up custody under straitened circumstances.
