A good read. But a few of the key plot twists felt cheap, and could have done with the seeds being sown earlier in the book. As a result they felt inconsistent with the otherwise tightly wound plot and the universe the author had created. In one or two places it was a bit as if a primary school student just out of the blue added “and then there was an earthquake because I forgot to mention up to this point that the whole story takes place on a faultline”.

Having watched the trailer, I went into this movie with trepidation - while the tv show is simple and full of heart, the trailer suggested the movie would have a lot of dark themes, superhero parody, and jokes for grown ups. All of which would have betrayed the tv series and not have gone over well with the kids. Needn’t have worried. The trailer was a misrepresentation - the movie is smashing. Just like the tv show but with more characters, more gadgets and more heart.
