A must-read book. It takes you back to a time when California was under the Mexican ranchero system and merchant ships made their way trading up and down the coastlines.

A hot mess of derivative nonsense and un-socially redeeming values. It makes the old Wonder Woman television series of the mid-1970s look highbrow in comparison. The acting is weak and self-mocking, the storyline is a jumble of time-travel, romance, gratuitous violence, wish fulfillment, side-split cocktail dresses and smackdown battles performed by long-legged women in stiletto pumps and brightly colored metallic swim suits. Good thing it's free on HBOMax, but really they should pay the viewer to watch the thing.

I found it tedious. After 10 minutes or maybe 15 I moved on to something else, simply because it failed on multiple levels. The plot didn't kick in and the theme wasn't apparent, although it appeared to be aiming for a "quest" with some sort of downer tragedy nailed on at the end. I doubt I will give it a second try.
