Ingenious storytelling methodology, with an absorbing plot and acting to match. This is one film worth seeing again.

Ashfall has come on several times since its premier, but if I know it’s on again, I’ll watch it again. The fact that it’s in Korean with subtitles should in no way detract from its intensity for Western viewers. A bittersweet, quirky “buddy” movie with leads by Lee Byung-hun and Ha Jung Woo, even though Ha Jung Woo appears in more scenes and is putatively the main character, this is clearly Lee Byung-hun’s show and worth repeat watches as much because of his deeply felt performance as because of the bumpy ride to rapport between the two leads. In sum, the movie gets my five stars; I highly recommend its viewing.
