The most masterful storytelling I’ve ever experienced in a game that revolves around a gruff survivor and a young girl he must protect. Sadly, it’s also something that may never again be repeated by the developer.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a betrayal. It undermines the beautiful narrative of the first game and dishonors what Joel and Ellie had to survive and endure. And for what? Apparently, to sacrifice everything we loved in the first game to suit a weak narrative about the evils of revenge and violence. It is disgusting how the story tries to twist our perception of Joel and especially Ellie. It paints them as villains while forcing us to empathize with Abby. In the end, it leaves everyone broken. It feels like a story contrived by someone who never experienced the first game nor had any love for it. They are the real villain here, hidden behind all the obvious care and effort taken to craft the game. I hope Ellie finds them.
