I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie. What helped me was when I STOPPED trying to compare it to the original. This is NOT a sequel or a prequel. It is a movie that stands on its own. Is it a masterpiece; far from it. But, I was impressed by how the director showed that all religions can work and work together.
So, if you're looking for gore, pea soup vomiting, and another over-the-top crucifix scene, you won't find it here. This movie is not an action movie, so you won't get car scene chases either. It also isn't full of f-bombs and constant bad language. What you will get is a movie that might just make you think and also realize that, once in a while, we all need a little faith.
Rated R for some disturbing images and a little salty language. Highly recommended.
