Its easier to compare this film to Ready Player One, than to analyze it on its own. Free Guy takes the previously fleshed out ideas that make a video game more presentable in cinema, and trades them out for tearing transitions between the real world and a comically inacurate recreation of modern video games. The effect and ideas used make me feel more like this was made for an older generation who THOUGHT this is what games would look like. Its as if the movie industry forgot the progress that RP1 made in undoing the reputation video games in movies had. Its just all around disapointing.
