Александр Кузнецов (Aleksandr Kuznetsov) is the new cinematic heartbeat of the world, enchanting us even in the midst of some of the most ridiculously entertaining ultra-violence ever seen on film.
WHY DON’T YOU JUST DIE! mostly occurs in a single room, where suspense builds and builds to a threatening boil (think Hitchcock and DIAL M FOR MURDER, ROPE, REAR WINDOW), exploding into an uncontrollable bloodbath (think Tarantino and everything he’s ever done).
So, what we have here is the Russian love child of Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino. And, oh my God, does it work. This movies has guts, literally and figuratively, and takes no prisoners. It’s brutal. It’s also marvelously written, acted, directed, and one of the best films I’ve seen in YEARS. Find it. See it.
