S11Ep14:Mike Cockrell makes jalapeño cornbread liquor. In the making of the bread he refers to it as cornpone then tries to give definition to Jerry when asked what's the "pone" part... Mike says "pones of cornbread" wasn't far off in meaning. it's origin is from an Algonquin word apan (oppone) encountered (in the 1600's) by Europeans & Africans in the Chesapeake Bay country. Then is designated as bread baked by American Indians, & as time passes it's referenced to the cornbread from (American South)

I checked b4 writing so I wasn't "like Mike!!" So as per today's meaning: Somebody pleez tell Mike the difference refers to ingredients. Cornpone has only cornmeal, water, salt & oil (preferably bacon drippings) and referred to as skillet (or pan) bread. Now it's a cornbread when flour, eggs etc.is used like Mike... Moonshiner's and it's affiliated shows Master Distiller's and Smoke Pit are premium Discovery channel top picks!! The cast of the shows are better than any top paid entertainment a network wld hope to find (raw, natural & real talent!!) The moonshiner's heritage is an American rite of passage, icons of history, and I'm thankful is being recognized and recorded for historical references. I hope the show goes on for years to come!
