I got this game for free for buying a CPU. Thanks AMD.
At first it felt quite good, it felt like I was playing FO:NV again, but with modern graphics and a brighter colour pallet. But after a while, it all started to get far too boring and far too predictable. That's because this game is an imitation, a game made by blending pre-existing popular RPGs (Fallout, Borderlands, Bioshock, etc.) in an effort to make a more refined product.
It worked in some ways, you have a decent ammount of control over the story and the game plays well with very little bugs (which is far more than what can be said for many recent AAA RPGs). But at times the game felt poorly scripted due to how flexible the story is.
In general the charcters are written very well, though sometimes characters who usually tolerate/like you doing things in a "lawful/neutral evil" way, suddenly are freaked out by something you expect they would be okay with. Due to this, after a while I couldn't decide if some characters were well written or terribly written; it could swing either way depending on how you "filled in the blanks". It felt like the writer(s) didn't really know what they wanted their character(s) to be. I guess the game's strengths are actively becoming the game's weaknesses, which is a shame.
Well anyway, this game is trying real hard to be a good RPG. It succeeds in some ways, fails in others. Doubtless this game would have a strong following of satisfied fans, but I'm not one of them. In my view nothing about this game was amazing, it was all just okay. If you like western RPGs, you'd probably love this. But just in case, get it heavily discounted (<£30).
