In short, this film excelled in every way possible. From the editing, to the transition, the score, the archaic tone, the humor, the word choice, acting, and even relatable emotion (pertaining to desire, revenge, poise, loneliness, and cleverness). The film really gives the audience a great inside view of the depression era while using rag time score to perpetuate the archaic tone. Newman and Redford are perfect for the roles, a classic duo. Shaw is also perfect in his mafia role as well. The entire film is built on setting up for the end of the film that is an ingenious display for the big con/climax. A classic example of how to make a film with the audience being interested throughout. Probably better than Butch/Sundance.
