This has nothing to do with the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. I couldn't even find her credit in the opening or closing credits. It has none of the same characters, none of the same history, it's just yet another case of a writer in Hollywood unable to find funding without slapping an adaptation together to demonstrate a nested audience.
Unfortunately all Hollywood is now is adaptations of comic books, novels, plays, etc., and writers got sick of it, so they started "reimagining" works. This equates to them scamming firms in order to get paid to actually be creative, and scamming audiences by putting a classic name in front of their nose when the work has nothing - NOTHING - to do with the classic. It was sad to see if happen to Ready Player One, unforgivable to watch HBO do it to Fahrenheit 451, and now here we go again with The Haunting of Hill House.
Hollywood's just a rebranding company now. If you're looking for new stories, turn to books or video games. It costs too much to produce film - for now. Hollywood is falling apart, but millenials are finding out a smartphone and a gimbal make for similar tier content.
