Hits a sweet spot!
(TL: DRStreets of Rage and virtua fighter’s love child)
It’s nice to have a game that you can pick up and play. The fighting system is awesome and should set a precedent for upcoming games! It’s simple, but you can’t button mash. It takes some getting used to and the upgrade system is confusing at first, but does a good job of growing with you. It will seem unforgiving at first, but once you start grinding it out, you’ll get the hang of things. The aging system keeps the replay value high. I’m not entirely through the game yet and it’s supposedly short, but I’ve put at least 30 hours into it… I’ll get frustrated and have to set it down and walk away, but will find myself wanting to pick it back up within an hour. The loss of one star is mainly for the camera angles… sometimes you’ll get in the middle of a mob, and if you aren’t paying attention, the angle will switch and you’ll get knocked with some hits that are hard to get over when you’re surrounded. My only other complaint would be the graphics… I’m playing on a ps5, so maybe my expectations were higher, but they seem a tad outdated in the actual gameplay… maybe this is to keep things fluid in the game because everything moves so fast, but runs so smoothly. Definitely pick this one up!! It’s a nice “filler game” to pick up and play or use as a break from games you might be in the middle of where the open worlds and drawn out stories start to feel repetitive.
