If we’re rating the original, I’d give it 5 stars. However the new series contains too many inconsistencies from the original. For instance, of the three girls, Cherie was the most boy crazy. No way in hell she’d be a lesbian. If you want to have a lesbian character, fine, just don’t turn someone who was obviously straight into a lesbian. All through the original, Punky said she didn’t want to be a photographer and had her heart set on being an astronaut. Cherie stood at her parents’ grave and told her dad she was going to do something that he wished he had done: become an architect. This was truly heartfelt and to pass it off when they wrote the new episodes. It’s almost like the writers hadn’t even watched the original…or thought nobody would notice.
