a realistic presentation of servitude deep sitted in a helpless man.this is a servitude when it overweighs the servant's urge to become free even when the chance to become free appears before the him.I don't know whether Adoor wanted to depict the mental servitude of the rural mass and their total submission to their feudal masters that might conjure up the feudal past of India or the relic of it.the servitude ends,the poor, helpless man becomes free not by assulting on his master and snatching his rifle which might sound more revolutionary but instead by throwing away the rifle from the dead master's grip into the river.
