I give it one star for acting and another for the visuals; besides these "Mare of Easttown" has very little to offer.
First, this is no crime/mystery series! It has a detective in it? Yes, but does that make it crime? No! The whole plot is about Mare and her troubled chaotic life who happens to be a not a very good detective who occasionally works on her cases. And the cases? I didn't even got curious about them! Not to mention most of the clues were pointless and even dumb. [Spoilers: like why would Frank lie about seeing Erin for no reason at all? And Dylan burning Erin's journals like a psychopath? There was absolutely no reason for portraying it the way the show creators did]
Second, there are so many unnecessary scenes and out of place relationships with a couple of not very funny jokes. [Spoilers: what was the point of Mare and Richard strange sudden relationship? And what Siobhans relationships had to do with the story? Not to mention both of them were very strange and unreal. Sleeping with a girl in one night, dumping her tomorrow, dating another girl immediately and trying to sleep with her at the very first date night in your mom's garage? Really? I guess it has something to do with Easttown's weather because most of the story was about people sleeping with someone)
Third, there are huge logical errors in the plot. [Spoilers: why wouldn't Mare go to the hooker she knew when Katie, who apparently was a sex worker, gone missing? Why the girl who was attacked didn't go to the police after she escaped or after she heard the news about two other prostitutes gone mysteriously missing? And I guess no cop, specially an unarmed one, let a suspicious suspect get out of his/her eyes to turn the music down.]
I guess you wouldn't miss a lot if you haven't seen "Mare of Easttown" yet.
