The fact that this movie has a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes is just outrageous to me.
What I love about this film is how realistic it could be and how choices bring you to where you are. Very similar theme to No Country For Old Men.
The thing about this movie: all of this could
happen. Any day of the week, any time of the year, to anyone. There’s a very Manson-esque vibe, which is Bertino’s point, and it’s extremely intense. You are on the edge of your seat even if you’ve seen it a thousand times. That’s what makes this movie the most horrifying.
I also can’t understate the eerie tone of the music.... gracious.
Sure, other genres of horror can seen much more terrifying, but what makes this movie utterly and horrifically nerve racking is the reality of the situation. I get the complaints about the characters being ignorant and not being able to figure out what to do, even though it seems quite obvious.
But if it were you... would you be able to make the snap decision and survive?
