Initially, I intended to give this series one star, saving the second for its great visual effects. The cinematography is very impressive; however, the storyline lacks depth. I never thought I'd get bored with anything from LOR, but this series did it for me. Numerous irrelevant lines and stupid decisions by the main characters that had nothing to do with the overall narrative. For example, who in the right mind would give Sauron's hilt to a child after going through all that? Literally the most important object in the story!
The other disappointing thing about the show was the choice of actors. I expected Elrond to be a charismatic character. However, the chosen actor was far from that - you just couldn't take his words seriously. The only good choice was Galadriel - thanks God.
Anyway, throughout the series, it felt as though more effort was directed towards making sure nobody in the universe gets offended rather than crafting an amusing and tasteful narrative.
I hope they take these points as a sign to make a comeback for season two - after all, its LOR we're talking about...
