First things first..aaron pauls performance was outstanding in el camino and truly deserves an award for stepping straight back into jesse pinkmans shoes like no time has passed. However, being a huge fan of breaking bad and having watched the series multiple times i cant help but feel hugely disappointed with the film.
Spolier alert.
The film decided to follow the journey of jesse ultimately trying to get a new identity and once and for all escape and live in peace. Only to find out hes only $2000 short of purchasing such an endeavour. Jesse trys to peaceful gain the extra cash from the "no mention of any welding company in BB" character and ends up in a very pointless shoot out with some very forgettable characters. The driving factor for me of the trailer was "who was jesse talking to in the stand off?" Only to be hugely disappointed to find out it was a no body who didn't feel like giving him any extra cash that day.
Jesse successfully gets the money but then lets 3 witnesses leave after they have saw his face knowing what a high profile target he is only then to blow up the welding factoring for a pointless firework show. Pointless flashbacks occured throughout the film and, yes it was great to see the old characters again, but i cant help to think a huge opportunity has been missed. No mention of the blue meth, no mention of walts son receiving the money from grey matter, no feedback from skyler when she inevitably finds out walt has died, no mention of marie finding out where hank has been buried etc.
This felt like it could have been a 30 minute extended BB episode from season 5 and thats it. I would have been satisfied if one of the flashbacks was of walter white laying on the floor after collapsing in the last episode with the police checking his pulse and zooming in on his lifeless hand only for his finger to twitch ever so slightly and then credits rolled. I would have been at least satisfied for another 6 years.
