I thought Respect was a well tried old formula that had already been done before such as Billie Holiday in Lady sings the blues. It fails to go into the complex relationships of the black people in the Southern States and what Martin Luther King represented crucial to Franklin's bio pic. It was same old same old fallen star gets redemption. The film should have gone further into these explosive issues instead of an all singing cast doing a song and dance routine
