It seems like most of the negative reviews are from those of us who were avid book fans as kids. This film felt very cheap with less than terrific acting, an unnecessary political undertone which truly robs the film of its horror aspect, and just not scary or loyal to the book. The visuals were decent, but that is about it. The jump scares were cheap and downright comical. Young teens would probably enjoy this film, but I did not.
