I really, really, wanted to like this. When I saw it pop up on Netflix I thought 'brilliant sci-fi space travel, aliens, Katee Sackhoff and some other decent actors this is going to be good!' Oh boy how wrong can you be. The characters seem to be a mix of a high school drama and big brother, talk about unnecessary drama I would want to space the lot out of the nearist airlock, apart from Katee and the AI guy. Maybe its an age thing (in my forties) but I thought the writing was insulting to twenty somethings if thats how the writers think people in their 20s act. *****Spoilers****** The premise was good it should have been great, Alien artifact lands on earth starts relaying data back home? A ship is sent out to investigate where that data is being sent presumably a first contact scenario and find out if the intentions are hostile, all good so far. What you got is well you see the artifact land, a couple of scientists are investigating it, could be hostile aliens lets send a ship with an experienced commander (Katee) to find out what the deal is before it gets nasty. Theres no build up, people on Earth dont seem bothered by the aliens, maybe that comes later in the series. Action is based on the ship anyway, the crew is woken early (space anomaly) and literally the crew is awake five minutes and they are all ready to mutiny, reason I don't know really why but seems to be because the new commander is in her thirties and is playing it a bit safe. There is a dialogue about how you might as well cut of your balls by the time you reach 27 because all the greats like Katy Perry die by then? I don't know upshot is your past it when you hit 30 and have no right being in space. So the best hope for humanity is supposed to be a bunch of twenty somethings, who act like a bunch of teenagers, you just know these guys wouldn't pass any type of Psych evaluation. And I don't care who you are and that everyone is too cool for uniforms anymore but no one is wearing a pair of stilettos in space, no one ever, did they just tell the actors to wear whatever? ****** end spoiler**** Upshot I've only watched the first 30 minutes so far, so perhaps I should I've it another go, maybe with alcohol, because I really wanted to like this.
