It’s hard to give a film with this cast and crew only 3 stars but this film makes the mistake of not fully committing to drama or comedy. It’s a dark satire that delivers a very somber yet real perspective on the sad state of our world. It’s predictable and full of stereotypes, which I understand was the writer’s intent, but there just really wasn’t anything insightful, intelligent, or unexpected to inspire, challenge or surprise me. It had great potential but falls short. In film, it’s hard to deliver a compelling story that’s “somewhere in the middle.” I believe you need to fully commit to drama, comedy, romance, horror… and tell a story that’s both authentic and unique. This film unfortunately is a bummer — in both it’s plot (writing) and it’s filmmaking (direction) — but perhaps that was the filmmaker’s objective.
