AS always, the book was better. But that is almost always true.I thought it was a good film. I have a love hate relationship with the main character,a man so indecisive it hurts, He doesn't know what to do, to emigrate or not? Which woman to love? In a way his death in the Moscow tram was a relief. Russian clasical literature is full of indeccisive characters,must be the political situation, the Tzarist Russia and Soviet Union. Powerless people can't chose, because they don't really have a choice.

Weird, but well done. I don't find horror movies scary which makes them a bit boring for me, but I wasn't bored. I wasn't scared either. On balance it was interesting.

Visually beautiful, almost to the point that it was superfluous, the story would have worked better with less unnecessary albeit beautiful scenes of beautiful naked actors. I almost didn't finish watching it, it got a bit boring. Then Glenda Jackson in one little scene made it better.
