After watching "Get Out," I, like many others, was more than eager to finally watch Peele's next "masterpiece."
However, while walking out of the theater, it dawned upon me: This is the only movie I've ever watched where I seriously considered asking for my money back. The plot makes no sense, the writing is terrible, and the metaphors are too jumbled to make any sense. While the horror genre shines in generating angst and suspense as the plot moves along, "Us" somehow managed to generate anger and frustration, culminating in theater-wide laughs during moments that were supposed to be taken seriously. Peele tries too hard, and it unfortunately came off as comical.
PLEASE save your money. The critical acclaim given to this movie shows just how detached institutional reviewers are from the everyday moviegoer.
