As a musical, it's an absolute delight. The visuals are vibrant, the bits of choreography are dazzling, the cultural representation is exuberant and the acting is engaging. I'm sure you'll fall in love with at least one character, as several different, imaginative storylines were represented.
But beware: if you go into this blind, expecting a Step Up movie and/or not knowing anything about the original, you'll be sorely disappointed. Mom and I went into this expecting a dance movie, going entirely off commercials and nothing else, and ended up walking out.
The singing, for those of you going in blind, outweighs the dancing and spoken dialogue by far. In the first five minutes, there's more singing in this than a Disney movie. Beware if you are NOT a musical fan!
