This series did an excellent job of portraying the British experience in WWII on the home front. The clothing, the cars, the coupons, and all the thousand and one details, along with the attitudes of the "old pre-war" guard reacting to all the changes occurring in the country made this an insightful, thoughtful series.
The characters of Inspector Foyle, his son, and his subordinates, such as his driver, Sam Stewart, gave a good cross-section of the attitudes and actions of the British people as they "kept a stiff upper lip" and "soldiered on."
