The movie had an interesting spin on the classic fairy tale, but it failed to deliver an entertaining story. The moments where it felt like the story would take off and do something new and different just kind of fall short and fizzle out. The movie was oddly paced and dragged on more than it should have. Just movies redeeming quality is that when it does actually try to give the viewer a creepy atmosphere it's extremely effective. The acting is a bit lackluster. The story itself takes unnecessary twists and turns to try and reveal more of what has happened in this world. After about the first or second time rental has a dream sequence the audience can pretty much figure what's going on. I feel like the movie would have benefited from taking what it wanted to add to the story and doing more with it.
