I am sorry I bought this book. The description promised a well written novel about this well known character. I found it shallow and boring

I found the book in its English translation. Grass' style and his use of language is familiar to me from his other works. But I have real problems with the English translation. It uses words and expressions that perhaps are used in parts of England, or by certain population groups in England, but we in the US are not familiar with them. It's not the novel that is hard to read, it's the English translation. I keep having to look up words. I will now look for a copy in German.
