I just started watching this, and I agree that the writers got confused at one point. I do remember that this show was in trouble being picked up and finishing through many different networks such as NBC/Peacock and now Netflix.
I have a feeling that the show runners got lost and this is what we have.
I like the show, I did get tired of the “I am trying to save my son” and the “are you ok?” over and over again, but I guess it needed to be there.
This would have been a great 2-part mini-series instead.

Though the film has some flaws, it was still one of the uplifting and fun musicals I have ever seen. So much job and comedy in a feel-good show.
