Pretty good game honestly, but it's not on par with it's predecessor; The Sims 3. It is a huge improvement graphically but without DLC or Mod packs, The Sims 4 is basically a 5/10. A lot of things you could do in TS3 base game is considered DLC in TS4, which you have to pay for mind you.
Unfortunately or fortunately TS4 went Free To Play to encourage people to buy DLC. "Oh I got this game for free, might as well buy a few of the $1,284.19 worth of DLC." and for people who already paid for the base game, (On Origin/Steam release) we didn't get anything it really feels like a slap in the face from EA. Which it's EA, one of the most greediest publishers on par with ActiVision.
Fun Fact: Electronic Arts (EA), has been voted as the worst company several years in a row!
Even without buying any DLC I think you can get a decent amount of content in TS4 (without mods). To expand without purchasing anything, you'll need to install some mods.
Rumor is The Sims 5 is in development and I really hope they go above and beyond TS3, and TS4. As there are new life sims coming out this year and the next, Paralives, Inzoi. (Paralives is a passion project, and Inzoi is a realistic looking sims on steroids made by an AAA company.)
So in conclusion I do recommend The Sims 4. A few hours worth without any DLC, and hundreds of hours with + Mods.
