Adrenaline rush? Sure. Satisfying under closer, semi-intellectual inspection? Not so much. There are so many issues with the story-telling here. I will list some of them below (SPOILER ALERT):
&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&
1) Hyperjumping or whatever it's called is previously not established and only foreshadowed by the crazy suicide jump in Ep 8, which is already problematic (previously unused technique that seems too obvious not to have been an option before in the Star Wars universe). How and when did Poe learn this stuff, and if he knew it before, why don’t we ever see this technique previously if it DOES exist prior to Ep 8/9
2) Emperor Palpatine’s return explanation is vague at best. We get hinted that it had to do with cloning technology, which is fine since Palpatine did order the Ep 2 clone army after all. Presumably, it was a Palpatine clone on the Death Star 2, which makes sense as a strategic decision to not put your head honcho on a station that isn’t even fully built/secured yet. However, if the cloning thing is so good, why did Stormtroopers eventually cease to be clones (it's clear that the First Order is kidnapping children for this eventually. Can't be more efficient than cloning, can it?)
3) Going off of the previous point, if Palpatine only had a clone on Death Star 2, what was the point of trying to convince Luke to kill him there? As we see in Ep 9, transfer of Sith powers/rulership seems to only work with the original Sith lords (as Rey must strike down the OG Palpatine in the Sith lair). This is an inconsistency if the above clone theory is true, and if it’s not true, then Palpatine’s ‘return’ really doesn’t make sense.
4) Was Snoke a failed clone used as a stand-in? Was he the best they had at the end of Ep 6? Not addressed at all.
5) The C3PO sacrifice was poorly done. If Anakin built the droid as a kid, then that means there are other existing sources for the Sith translation. The movie should have instead sent the team on a goose chase for some ancient library, thwarted the team by First Order strike etc, and THEN killed off C3PO as a necessary alternative. Speaking of C3PO, the sacrifice caries no emotional significance since we know that R2 has backups.
6) The handling of Rey’s parents isn’t great. Sure, you can argue that they LIVED as nobodies, but that doesn’t change the fact that they were descendants of Palpatine, so were they really ‘nobody’? Seems manipulative coming from Kylo Ren later trying to justify his earlier statement.
7) Don't get me started on all of the new Force powers we previously never see...
8) General Hux surprises with a twist against Kylo Ren... and is immediately killed just when the audience is wondering what else he might do to meddle with plans. They should have had Hux escape the ship, be off-screen for a while, and reappear when Kylo Ren is trying to get to Rey in the Sith lair.
