Excellent, readable, exciting, authentic. The Cape Raider by Justin Fox is a stunning first in a series. It is set in and around the southern tip of Africa during WWII. Fox captures the squalid dependability of the ships used as mine sweepers in an unforgiving part of the world. Although I have not been there personally, the description of the weather is consistent with the history I have read. The combat scenes are plausible and horrifying. Fox candidly describes people doing their jobs despite overwhelming stress. The racial tensions are completely believable. This is a book well worth reading on every level.
