I was appalled to see nudity in this film. I expect Disney not to have nudity in their films; I had to go back to make sure I didn’t imagine it. Right at 25 minutes 27-31 seconds is a woman who’s bare chest is painted. But it’s not painted so you don’t see it. Horrible!
The rest of the film was a jumbled mess. As other reviews mention it’s a compilation of music videos strung together. Supposedly there is a Lion King connection but other than sound bytes from the Lion King movie I couldn’t see it.
The story, such as it is, is uplifting for Black boys and girls and shows what their African heritage may have been like. The message that “kings and queens” must share their strengths and weaknesses (and other things I cannot recall) was on target when I heard it, but the music and songs surrounding that message didn’t seem to fit.
The film is Visually Stunning!
This isn’t a film for little kids. They’ll lose interest in minutes. It should be shown to at minimum 16+ where their minds are developed enough to understand the message.
One song: Brown Skin Girl, is the only song I can imagine hearing on the radio. No other song would be appropriate.
