I noticed this movie is reviewed at either a 1 or a 5, no in between.
I can relate to the 5s here because Birdemic: Shock and Terror is so horrifically bad, that it's good.
What is supposed to be a gruesome, morbid thriller about a bird attack on a quaint town, comes out as a light-hearted, good old hilarious time.
This movie had me in tears many times. *spoilers ahead* the first time I laughed so hard I cried was within the first five minutes of the film when the main character goes into a restaurant and the waitress greets him with this staticy, obnoxious "HI" followed by a quieter, still fuzzy "here's the menu". This moment sets the tone for the rest of the movie.
There aren't any actual birds for the first 45 minutes because the movie is too busy explaining that every single characters life is going perfectly as planned. The main characters company gets the funding it needs, he gets a solar panel, life is good. The female character just landed a modelling gig with Victoria's Secret. So of course they meet and go on like two dates.
Then, the birds come in. I think they had one bird sound, three animations and no budget. It was fine. Especially the bird puke acid. Totally awesome.
I get that one possibly insane man made this film so there isn't much to be expected. And that's why I like it. It's fun and light hearted.
