I had to switch off after 2 episodes. Big disappointment. There's is just too much going on and as a result loses its identity as a series. You've got Eric supposedly grieving but has a daft imaginary fluffy monster straight out of a cgi kids movie. You've got a these different strands that just distract from the real drama. 80s new york is a great premise, that and the missing kid is enough already, the other stuff is superfluous. Too many ideas not enough actual meaningful content. It's full of tropes and half hearted social commentary which is rendered meaningless and virtual signallibg due to all the silly rubbish going on. Everyone rates Cumberbatch's acting in this but I really don't see it? He is unconvincing as a goofy genius grieving dad but this might be due to not enough character development and all the unnecessary fluff

I just watched it on Netflix...it's an incredible film. A masterclass in filmmaking, pared down, low budget, it is more riveting than any Hollywood huge budget thriller i've seen. No effects, no fancy camera techniques just pure intense drama with a backstory intertwined. I couldnt even pause it to go to the loo, too gripping. A must see. It deserves an Oscar. Those overated over-paid directors need to learn from this director. The acting is superb too. A very clever and heartfelt film.
